7/7/05 You can cry over spilled milk, or you can lick it off the floor so you don't waste the protein. I've decided to do the second. What got me to such an exciting year this year so far was not smiling for camera's and making crappy money doing it. It's not finding the best music for some goofy posing routine. It's not about having the best color on stage. Yes, these things all help, but it's not what has gotten me to where I am. It's not about feeling a little tired on leg day, so you do some useless leg extensions and leg curls, and maybe a few sets of standing calves, and call it a day. It's been about training until you're about to pass out--maybe you throw up--but you come back for more. It's about walking under the squat rack, when you're not only fearful of not getting the weight up, but your fearful of fainting because on the last rep of the last set, your partner had to pick you up. But for some sick reason you enjoy it. You tell yourself it's fun. It's about watching Pumping Iron at least once a week for motivation. It's about skipping every exercise you like, and only doing the ones you hate, because you know those are the hardest and will produce the most results. Ok, enough with the soap box. As you can tell my last competition helped me "refocus". I've asked myself one question. What am I in this for? Is it the money--give me a break. Is it the fame? Until I have paparazzi's following me, I wouldn't even put my name and fame together in the same sentence. Problem is though, over the last few years I forgot about why I was doing "it". I didn't think training until I saw stars, or hugged the toilet, was important or necessary any longer. I thought it was more important to be a some star fitness model. Or to get a contract with a supplement company. Or to win the overall in a show where some of the judges have never touched a weight in their life. So what have I done to help with my refocus?... I've gone old school again. I haven't been in the gym since I've been back from Miami. Why? Because I've been training with a new partner in his basement. I haven't done the LifeCycle computer generated leg press since I've been back. Why? Because I only have a squat rack, smith machine, a rack of dumbbells, and barbells. It's "squat until you drop". It's "dead lift until your dead". It's calf raises with my partner Marty on my back holding a few 45lb plates with Ozzy cranked in the background and no one to interrupt my workouts. I have honestly had some of the best training sessions in years. I forgot what it was like to not be able to walk down the steps without holding on to the railing because otherwise I'd fall. I forgot what it was like to be so sore all over I truly didn't know if I was getting sick, or it was just deep muscle soreness from good old fashioned, heavy training. I can honestly say that up until the past few weeks, I really wasn't even enjoying to train. It was starting to feel like a job. It seamed as if I wasn't doing it for me, but for other "people". Now I train for me, and only me. Whatever happens , happens!. Gotta get some sleep. Marty and I have some crazy arm training tomorrow morning. Marty, if you're reading this, I'll see ya in your basement at 6:45 am. Brian PS I'll have some "basement training" pictures in a few days for anyone interested. Here is a photo that a photographer just emailed me from the show in Miami.

8/15 - BRIAN'S BLOG Sorry it's been a while with no updates. I've been training pretty hard and eating like a horse--weighing a strong 220. I'll have "basement training" pics for you this week. Nothing like doing wide grip pull-ups from a steel beam running across the ceiling of a basement. "Pay More Attention to the Bodybuilder" Have you ever found yourself chuckling at some of the weird actions of a Bodybuilder? Come on and admit it. Have you ever rolled your eyes at something they did that made them seem like such a "meat head". I'll admit it - I have. Over the years bodybuilders will try anything to get better (some try too much-like the drugs). But whether they are clean or not, many of them(us) have had so many things in common that at one time or another just seemed so out of the ordinary. I thought of writing this when I was at my local grocery store last week and saw that they were selling large plastic containers that you now see so many "non-bodybuilders" carrying around sipping their water all day. I can remember last week seeing one of our scientist at Genetica, who never works out, carrying around his daily supply of water in his plastic jug that he bought at Walgreen's. And I'm sure this is the same guy who would have rolled his eyes two years ago at someone like me for sporting around a milk jug with my daily supply of water in it. People saw it worked, and learned the benefits of water, and decided to make it more practical by just filling up one jug and keeping it with them--duh, that's what us bodybuilders have been doing for decades! Or how about the low carb diet. I thought it was so funny to see it go mainstream the past few years. This was something bodybuilders had been doing for years prior to shows. And then to see the low carb crave at its peek was so funny. Even funnier was that bodybuilders had already learned how important carbs were to include in their diets for their energy levels, muscle building capabilities, strength levels, etc. Us bodybuilders had already moved on to a more sensible and balanced diet, while mainstream were starving themselves with the no/low carb diets. Or how about protein shakes. I can remember getting "joked on" about drinking protein shakes, especially at work. Now you've got them everywhere. Heck, I can drive a few exits down the highway and pick one up at the local Smoothie King. And I can tell you that there usually is a line--and none of them are bodybuilders. Everyone from elderly ladies to younger teenagers are including protein shakes in their daily food intake. What about these guys now shaving their body hair. I think the term for these types of guys is metrosexuals. Funny how bodybuilders have been doing it for years--and used to get snickered out--no more. So, are you interested to know the next "cool" thing to do. Well, I guess you better check in with your local bodybuilder!

Sept. 1st, 2005 Welcome to my new home-the basement. Ever since the Superbody in June of this year, I've been hitting it pretty hard with what I call "Basic Basement Training". Here are a few pics. I'm at 215lbs and feeling strong.

Added 3/1/06 Click Here for my video routine at the 2005 Superbody in June. Yes, this is probably the worst I had ever looked at a show, but it's the only one I have on video. Thanks to the guy who taped this and sent it to me! Anyway, here you go!

5/24/2006 I'm gonna make this one a quick one. I've been crazy busy lately with work, soccer games, and Fit Parties. I've shed all of my winter fat and am around 205 lbs at about 6%, and as ALWAYS, 100% life-time drug free (yes, I know, I didn't have to say "life-time" since I already mentioned "always"--but I hate when people say they are drug free just because they've been off the sauce for a short period of time). As soon as I felt I was in shape, I got in touch with some contacts, and the modeling jobs have been great thus far. I just got back from shooting a cover try with Muscle and Fitness. Hopefully, we'll be seeing that in June (July's 2006 edition). I also just shot a workout video for Repetrope video. Their crew flew up here from Florida to Cincinnati. We did a killer upper-body workout. Look for that in the next few weeks right here on wiefit.com. Beverly International has me on their current Body Muscle Journal Magazine (see pic on left). Those guys rock. They literally could not keep up with the orders at the Arnold Classic this year. It was so funny to see some of the "Huge" supplement companies that paid a fortune to have NFL athletes, IFBB pro bodybuilders, and MLB players at their booths. People came to their booths to get autographs and try free samples. No one was buying anything. And then right next to them, you've got Beverly International with 10 consultants, who literally could not keep up with the orders. People actually were making trips back and forth to their cars to load up on Beverly Products--no lie (If you were there you know what I'm talking about). I also shot a second workout video with Fit Parties, which focuses more on weight training to build muscle (which we all know burns fat!). Fit Parties will offer two videos now. One is more of a cardio workout featuring Erin Torano and Hedi Wiefering, and as I said, the second video focuses on Muscle building/toning (featuring Erin Torrano and myself). Talk about a kick butt workout. It should be ready for sale by mid June at the latest. It's going to be set up where you can choose which body part you want to target, and simply click that choice with your remote control. Anyway, check back VERY soon. Tons of new stuff happening on Wiefit.com including four new Fitness Models

5/31/06 Let me share my Friday! I knew I was already going to be running late for work because my daughter (8 year old) was being awarded a math award in front of her school that morning. I assumed it would be a 30-45 minute ordeal, and off to work I go. Well, I was wrong. First of all, the 30-45 minute awards program was more like a few hours (No, I'm not complaining--there's nothing better than watching your child get awarded for such hard work--and mom and dad were definitely proud!). So, it's now about 11:00 and Heidi, Makena (2 year old) and I are driving back home. That's when Heidi starts complaining about her stomach--yep, the stomach virus has entered the Wiefering home once again. My cell phone rings around this time, and it's my mother telling me about some contest that I just "have to go to". She insists that she "knows I will win". I tell her I can't go, but she calls back and keeps it up (can we say "mothers know best"). I tell her I've got to go to work, and now that Heidi is sick, I might have to take the full day off work to take care of her and the kids. She insists I go, and even insists on coming over to help out with the sick family. So, I decide, why not. The contest is called the "Gillette Face of Fusion" contest. Turns out that they are touring 10 cities and the winner in each city wins $500 and a chance to go to the finals in New York City in August. And if you win in New York, you win a decked out 2006 Dodge Charger, a 1 year Modeling Contract with FORD models, and a chance to appear in a Gillette commercial or ad. So, I show up, and they select the first 100 guys. We have to do a Mock commercial (just act like you are shaving) in front of 3 judges, which included a Ford Talent Scout, Beth Ostrosky (Howard Stern's Girlfriend), and a Gillette Representative! Then they did another run through of each contestant. Well, I WON!!! Can you say "Always listen to your Mother". Check out www.faceoffusion.com. Cincinnati was the last city on the tour. So, as of right now while I'm writing this, it hasn't been updated with the Cincinnati results yet. I'm so pumped about having a 1 out of 10 shot in winning the new Car. Wouldn't be bad either to get on with the number one agency in the world (Ford). Anyway, needless to say, I made it into work at about 1:30!

1/17/07 So, where the heck have I been? I know, I've gotten so many e-mails asking why the site hasn't been updated, and what I have been up to. First off, let me thank you all for asking! As great of a year as 2006 was for me with wiefit, our supplement business, modeling, and my training, the unexpected happened to me in mid-October. I TORE MY ROTATOR and had to have shoulder surgery--aauuggg! Anyone who has fitness in their blood, as I do, knows why I sort of crawled in a hole until I could get this thing healed! I went through about 3 months of therapy. I was able to hit some legs during those three months. I couldn't squat, as I could not raise my arms up to hold the bar. But, I've come a very long way just the past few weeks. I'm 100% on legs as I can squat now, about 95% on arms, 90% on Back, about 80% on shoulders, and 70% on chest movements. With the progress I have made over the last two weeks, I feel as if I will be 100% on everything by the beginning of February! I did eat pretty well during all of this. That's the one thing I am pleased about. Thank goodness I did. I feel I'm already really close to being in decent condition. And as I always say, "nutrition is about 80% of bodybuilding"--or at least looking like one! So, sorry to say, since I was too busy trying to get myself back to normal, I did slip some on this site. Thank God for Heidi who took care of filling those supplement orders and getting them out so quickly! Anyway, I'm back and pumped for what's coming... Wanna know? We really have some good things we are going to do this year in 2007 for Wiefit.com. We have new models to update, and great offers on Beverly Supplements. We are also going to add a monthly column for people LIKE YOU to tell us their success stories; and another column for experts in the fitness industry to give us tips on things that relate to fitness, whether it be diet, figure or bodybuilding preparation, modeling, etc.! Heidi and I will be attending the Arnold Classic again this year with Roger and Sandy and the rest of the Beverly Bunch! What a good time that is. And I hear they will be offering some crazy deals. Make sure if you are a wiefit.com visitor that you stop by and introduce yourself! And what am I most excited about?... I (with the help of the Beverly Bunch) will be promoting the first ever Drug-tested bodybuilding show in the state of Kentucky! It is the NPC Beverly International Natural Bodybuilding and Figure Championships!!!!!!!!! It is being held in September right here in Northern Kenutcky and is open to anyone no matter where you live (so all of you Cincinnati people, cross the bridge and show us what you got) More details will be coming very soon! Check back soon as I promise Wiefit.com will be updated often with everything and more!
